Camp Dreams

Hey, Wapsie-Folk. This is Andy posting again.

Am I the only one who still regularly has dreams about Camp?

The most recent camp-related dream occurred last night. I dreamed that I was at next September's reunion. There was a whole bunch of people there, but oddly, I recognized very few of them. Some were older, some younger, some my age, but very few faces were familiar to me. And even those that I did recognize (including Laura, Zeller, Shawn Cummings and Aaron) barely acknowledged me. They all just gave me a courtesy head-nod, and maybe a mumbled, "hey."

The males of the reunion, for some reason, all wanted to wrestle each other. All day long, that's all they did ... wrestled in the cabins, wrestled in the Big Field, challenged each other to wrestling matches. (I suspect this somehow parallels the boxing thing they had going on in the "Indian Summer" movie.)

The only person who was friendly to me was a guy who identified himself as "Chad." He was a real-life person who was in my cabin my very first year at camp, 23 years ago. To my knowledge, "Chad," or whatever his name was in real life, never came back to camp after that year. My only memory of him was that he was the one kid in our cabin willing to crawl through the mud so we could get some prize during an all-camp game. Anyway, in my dream, "Chad" was at the camp reunion. We sang a little of the cabin cheer from that year (a parody of "Let's Hear it for the Boy"), and went our separate ways.

That was about it. If anyone would like to analyze all that, be my guest. Also, if anyone else has camp dreams (I can't be the only one, can I?) I'd love to hear them.

p.s.: I've taken the liberty of "inviting" myself to be a contributor to this blog. I did this so I won't have to log out of blogger, look up the user name, and log back in every time I want to post. I hope this is OK.

Liz Dillon Croco

First of all- thanks Betsy for doing this. It's a great idea. I'm with Andy- I wouldn't know what to do on Facebook or myspace. This is simple enough!

So as you can see, I have two little ones. Samantha will be 4 in January and Dillon just turned 2 last week. They are both wonderful, feisty and spirited children so they keep us on our toes.

We still live in Iowa City (North Liberty to be precise). I am still lawyering, now in Iowa City, no longer in Cedar Rapids. It's funny running into David Bright or Darcie's husband, Pope, at local bar associating meetings or the courthouse. Makes you realize what a small world we live in!

Besty- I think it's time to start digging up old pictures so we can all get a laugh! Hope everyone is doing well!

Greetings

First off, thanks to Betsy for setting this thing up. I'd heard about the Facebook site, but I thought you had to be under 30 to know what words like "Facebook" and "Myspace" meant, so I've stayed away from those places.

The Weld family update is pretty simple. Still living in Blytheville, Arkansas, in the northeast corner of Arkansas, about an hour north of Memphis on Interstate 55. If anyone's ever traveling south toward Memphis or New Orleans, chances are, you'll pass right through town, so give me a call ... we'll do lunch.

My oldest child, Katie, is 8. She in third grade and wants to be Hannah Montana.

My son, Drew, is 5, and just started kindergarten this year.

From the pictures, you can see that we traveled to Disney World this year. We're at Animal Kingdom in the bottom photo. Note the shirt.

Hello all,
great to see all these adorable kids. Here is a picture of my two little girls, Grace (2) and Sophie (7 months). I retired from practicing law to be a stay-at-home mom and live just north of Chicago.

In case you didn't see this on the "facebook" site....

Hey Everyone -

I just wanted to send out a "SAVE THE DATE" note to everyone for the next Alumni Staff Reunion. Camp has been reserved for the weekend of September 26-28, 2008. It will begin on Friday evening and go through Sunday afternoon. I will be sending out registration forms in late spring sometime.

I am trying to get the word out early so as to reach people whose addresses (home and email)have changed and try to contact others I haven't heard from. So, if you can forward this on to as many people possible - this would be a great help.

This reunion will be open to ALL alumni staff who have EVER worked at camp. At previous reunions, limits were set as to ensure there were enough beds. Well, this time the "Big Field" is going to be open for camping so we can sleep everyone. YEAH! This should make for any even more exciting reunion!

I hope you all can make it and PLEASE pass this on so we can reach as many as possible!

Enjoy your fall!
